WHEN TO USE A SEMI AND/OR AUTOMATIC DEFIBRILLATOR

When should an (AED) Automated External Defibrillator be used in order to help save someone’s life?

After calling or directing someone else to call 911, immediately use the look, listen and feel technique for about 10 seconds. Look for chest movement while listening and feeling for breathing.

If necessary, conduct a simple finger sweep of the victim’s mouth to clear any objects that may be obstructing the air passage way.

If the victim is unresponsive and/or unable to breathe on their own, immediately send someone to retrieve the nearest (AED) Automated External Defibrillator.

Once the victim goes into a cardiac arrest, the optimum time frame to deliver a shock from the (AED) Automated External Defibrillator unit is approximately three to four minutes, or less.

Once the (AED) Automated External Defibrillator has arrived please open front cover and follow audible voice commands and visual instructions for applying defibrillator pads and delivering a shock.

PLEASE NOTE: Only provide emergency care to victim(s) if your comfort level and/or training abilities allow you to do so.

HOWEVER:
The bottom line is that it’s far better to do something than to do nothing at all, even if you’re fearful that your knowledge or abilities aren’t one hundred percent complete.

All (AED) Automated External Defibrillators locations are posted; please look for signs.
