Information Technology for ESL
AAS-T, Certificate

The Information Technology for ESL Students program is designed for non-native speakers of English who want to enhance both their English and information technology skills for the workplace and college studies. You will study in technology courses with native English speakers while also attending special ESL courses that support and prepare you for your college courses. You may enter the program fall, winter, or spring quarter.
At the end of the three-quarter program, you will be prepared to take the exam to receive the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certificate, which is recognized throughout the business community. This certificate shows that you have mastered technology skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
If you successfully complete the program, you may continue your general college studies or enter the Applications Support Certificate program as an advanced student and you will have already completed 8 college level credits!
Upon successful completion
- Prepared to take the exam for the Microsoft Office Specialist Certificate
- Eligible for entrance into the Applications Support Certificate Program

Students will be prepared for various positions in industries where support skills are in demand or are part of the expected job requirements.
Industries include: Health Care • Finance • Software Companies • Travel and Hospitality Companies
The Microsoft Office Specialist Certification (MOS) is a growing requirement for many IT support positions and can be achieved in as few as 3 quarters.
Employers seeking Applications Support skills and MOS certification include: Microsoft • Boeing • Starbucks • Alaska Airlines
Eligibility requirements
CASAS ESL levels 5 and 6 and basic familiarity with keyboarding.
Procedure for entrance into the program
Attend an information session about the program and complete an application form. Information sessions are conducted every quarter.
