Student Life

1. How many students are at Seattle Central?

Seattle Central has approximately 10,000 enrolled. Of these, approximately over 1000 are international students, including all college and ESL programs.

2. How can I meet Americans?

There are many ways to meet Americans at Seattle Central and in the Seattle community. We have seminars on this very subject for international students. Many students who do not live with an American host family sign up for the Conversation Partner Program which matches international students and American students/community members for conversational English and cultural exchanges.

Many international students also join one of our many student clubs on campus, or get involved in student government and leadership programs. In addition, some students have earned college credits participating in "service learning". Service learning is a wonderful way to learn about the real America, volunteering in the community, perhaps in a day care or retirement home or hospital. There are many other community organizations students can get involved with to experience the United States to the fullest.

3. How can I travel around the area while I am a student at Seattle Central?

The International Student Activities office is a wonderful resource for students whether you choose to join our planned activities or travel independently. Every quarter the staff plans several fun activities for students, including guided tours around the Pacific Northwest, parties and events around Seattle. If students prefer to travel independently, the office has a wealth of resources and an experienced staff available to give guidance.

4. Where can I live (Homestay, shared housing, temporary housing, etc.)?

International students at Seattle Central have several options. 4 different homestay agencies can assist students in arranging for a homestay with an American family, shared housing with other students or a single apartment. Temporary housing options are also available for students who would like to look for housing on their own after they arrive. Please visit our Housing page for more information.

5. How do I apply for housing?

Applicants should contact one of the three homestay agencies who work with Seattle Central directly in order to make housing and airport pick-up arrangements. See our housing page for more information.
