INFORMATION LITERACY COMMITTEE
The Information Literacy Committee (ILC) is a working committee charged with developing and promoting information literacy (IL) as a college wide learning outcome. The ILC has representatives from all divisions. The committee advocates for integrating information literacy into the college curricula, encouraging faculty participation in collection development and management, promoting collaborative relationships between librarians and other college faculty, and ensuring the library has the resources needed to accomplish its role in the college.
The ILC operates as an agent for change, creating a culture of appreciation for the importance of information literacy, and providing leadership to accomplish concrete actions to improve information literacy at the college, division, program, and course levels. The committee goals include:
- Developing and implementing projects to help faculty identify appropriate IL outcomes for their students and incorporate these outcomes into their curricula
- Creating and maintaining a list of courses in all college programs that actively develop core IL competencies
- Supporting faculty through IL training and mentoring
- Developing tools and resources, such as the curriculum planning template and the IL rubric, to promote research and information competencies and strategies in classrooms and programs
- Engaging administrators and staff in supporting IL throughout the college
